I run FG 1.0.0 on Vista also, and upon startup I always get the message "JS:
Failed to read joystick name from registry" -- and, the joystick name the
system reads is always a generic name. This has been true over two different
joysticks, a Logitech Attack-3, and a Saitek ST290 Pro. I've therefore had to
manually edit the joysticks.xml and a custom bindings xml file as well.
Cheers, -R.

OK, please attach your joysticks.xml file here (or just paste the whole
contents into the body of your reply) so we can see what you've changed.
I'm somewhat disturbed by Vista changing the name of your joystick from
what it really is to "Microsoft PC-joystick driver". It should be named
something like "THRUSTMASTER Top Gun Afterburner", but hopefully we can
work around that.
