I just wanted to leave some feedback on my recent attempts to get Flight Gear v1.0.0 running on two of my computers to no avail. I hope this information helps you out with newer releases.
The machines: HP a12lln Desktop 1.25 GB RAM AMD 64 3500+ ATI Radeon Xpress 200 2 x 500 GB Hard drives 1 x 250 GB Hard drive Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04 I tried to install under both operating systems and only managed to get FG to run once. The frame rate was around 1-2 fps and it dragged my system to a halt. This was under XP Unber Ubuntu, it never ran and just froze my system solid. Second system Compaq R4000 Laptop AMD 64 3500+ ATI Radeon Express 200M 1 GB RAM 100 GB Hard Drive Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04 Ubuntu installation did not crash this system, it just ran at 1-2 fps per second and caused the system to shut down due to over heating. Windows XP install again ran the first time after installation. 1-2 fps. I tried a second time with full screen and it took 35 minutes to try and start up only to completely freeze my system solid and I had to hard restart it. I'm sure it is the combination of ATI and AMD processors that is causing the issues.... I hope this helps you out and good luck with future releases. I can still run MS FS X in the time being, it just runs at 15-20 fps and that is frustrating. I was hoping for better luck from FG.
