JJ,

There should be a driver for the Saitek X52 already in 1.0.0 and the
development version.  Its rudder pedals are turned off for some reason.
You could be using this version, and that is why your button assignments
as axises do not work as expected.

fgjs makes a file called js0.xml which needs to be copied to
$FG_ROOT/Input/Joysticks/  Doing this should override the supplied
driver.

Assuming you did that correctly and it still doesn't work, attach your
js0.xml and send it to the list.
