Yes, that is a (the) way to go for released versions of flightgear. But 
that would not work for all cases. E. g. the pogo has two rotors, but it 
is intended to be flown with a normal  throttle (because it is more an 
airplane than a helicopter). And maybe in future someone would like to 
use a rotor as the propeller in a YASim Aircraft (rotors produce 
downwash acting on the elevator and rudder, which make some differences, 
not only on acrobatic aircrafts) while YASim propellers don't..

What's about an extra general property /controls/rotor/collective, which 
is by default the same as the throttle of the first engine and can be 
inverted either in the preferences or in the menu? With this approach we 
would be able to split throttle and collective in a clear way for older 
helicopters without governor.
