Hi jari

Thanks for the report.
I'm mobile now so will give you a quick hint to find the causes of
these issues.

To get the GUI side log more precisely, could you run the GUI from
terminal using the commands below?:

cd /Applications/FlightGear.app/Contents/MacOS
./FlightGear

The output to the terminal is attached as file fg_mac2pre1.log. As indicated in the log file I deleted many repeated lines.

The two first lines are produced when the launcher is started and the rest is created when I click on the 'Start Flight' button.

These will give you all launcher related logs on the terminal. Fgfs
log will be stored at ~/.fgfs/log.txt

The log.txt contains four lines

GraphicsWindowCarbon::grabFocusIfPointerInWindow
Failed to load file: "Aircraft/c172p/Models/Pedals/pedals.xml"
Failed to load file: "Aircraft/c172p/Models/Pedals/pedals.xml"
Unknown exception in the main loop. Aborting...

The crash on iMac needs to be investigated more. You can go to the
Resources folder and run fgfs.sh with options of your choice. This
will isolate the problems of fgfs from the GUI launcher part.

Trying to start fg with fgfs.sh simply presents the splash screen for a few seconds and dies. The log file content is the same as above, nothing is written to the terminal.

However, it's good to hear that the fgfs/cvs-head works on iMac. It's
newer than pre-1 code.

Btw are you using what version of OSG?

I am using the latest version from the OSG subversion repository. It is now 2.9.7+

Jari

Happy New Year and thank you for the nice present.

I have a short list of issues and suggestions for improvements. I can
successfully run fg on one mac whereas the another fails, details
below.

Cheers,

Jari

Minor issue:

1) Installation.

It would be nice if the installation dmg provided a link to the
Applications folder for easy drag-n-drop (as provided by many
packages,
e.g. firefox and thunderbird). I know this is not the most important
thing to fix but gives the user a very nice feel during installation.

Major issues:

2) On my iMac FlightGear shows a splash screen but quits all the
time. I
have tried to relaunch the program with no success. I have tried to
launch without Atlas and terrasync with no success, with and without
joystick. The log file says:

GraphicsWindowCarbon::grabFocusIfPointerInWindow
Failed to load file: "Aircraft/c172p/Models/Pedals/pedals.xml"
Failed to load file: "Aircraft/c172p/Models/Pedals/pedals.xml"
Unknown exception in the main loop. Aborting...

My iMac is running the 64-bit version of SnowLeopard, uname -a
outputs:

Darwin imac.local 10.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.2.0: Tue Nov 3
10:35:19 PST 2009; root:xnu-1486.2.11~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64

My MacBook Pro is also running 64-bit SnowLeopard but on that machine
FlightGear works! So, what is the difference. Of course, different CPU
but still dual cores on both machines. uname -a on MacBook Pro says
exactly the same as my iMac:

Darwin macbookpro.local 10.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.2.0: Tue
Nov 3
10:35:19 PST 2009; root:xnu-1486.2.11~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64

The graphics card differs, ATI on my iMac (ATI Radeon HD 4670) and
Nvidia on my MacBook Pro (GeForce 8600M GT).

(I run my own builds, recompiling all the time with the latest CVS/svn
repository versions with success, I am currently rebuilding everything
now merging your latest configure.ac patches into my own variants ...
and the latest CVS works on my machine.)

2b) I tried to launch fg from the command line according to the readme
in the package hoping to get more information than the log file above:

./fgfs.sh --aircraft=p51d --airport=KSFO

but there is no splash scrteen and the log file says

Cannot find specified aircraft: p51d
Config option parsing failed ...

I suppose the p51d should be replaced with c172p. Using c172p instead
gives the same effect as using the launcher.

3) Fly-by sound is bad (as reported by others during the fall/winter)
more on this some other time.

Happy New Year!

Finally, the 2.0.0-pre1 release of FlightGear for Mac OS X has been
released.

Go visit:
http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/
for the binary package.

Don't forget to consult the ReadMe file that comes with the
installation disk image for known issues and new features.
I'm very happy if many Mac users help us improve the quality of the
next official release by giving us feedbacks.

Best Regards,

Tat
