Give or try "file" in a knosole along with the complete way to
"file /directroy path/e100n20.tgz" I bet it says it is just a tarred file
Well, don't actually remember what the file command told me, but I was a little
confused, as the current tar versions on Linux seem to silently gunzip the tar
file even without the 'z' parameter if it is gzip compressed.
Checked on an older Solaris machine, where tar behaved more "direct", so it was
clear, one had to gunzip it first.
Don't actually like it too much, if a command does everything automatically
without telling, but, well, it's handy in some cases, of course.
Anyway: thanks for the progress to all promoting the progress here.
