..nowadays, you want the radeon driver, the radeonhd driver is the
poorest choise now, AMD/ATI's fglrx is the speediest driver only on 
brand new cards, X.org's radeon driver development is speedy enough
to warrant testing on any AMD/ATI card design older than 6 months.

..try put the newest Knoppix on an usb stick and paste in as root:
'aptitude update &&aptitude upgrade && aptitude install fgfs ' and
tell us about it. ;o)
