I had to switch from nVidia to nouveau about a year ago because of a bug
affecting a my then graphics card. Nouveau crashed and I posted here "2.6
Segfaults with : join_values_nofail:398 - failed to coalesce values" on 22nd
February this year. I tried on and off during the year as new versions of
nouveau were released, but no dice (the error message changed, I can't
recall the details now.) Eventually I gave up and uninstalled fg round about
September time.

I have just changed cards and reinstalled fg (today) using the current NVidia
blob. Still working my way through quite a few random segfaults - but it is a
simple card (Geforce 210 with only 1gb of video ram) and may not be up to the
job.
