I did not see the hang in Linux Mint 9 or my Ubuntu. The patch was just a
stab in the dark because OS X Carbon had a somewhat similar issue.

Do you have any input devices that may send an uncommon order of events?
Adding a usleep() should not change the behavior of the program, because
event timing should not be an issue (unless of course you have some tablet
device, or some other mouse replacement that messes with the event queue?).

A hanging WM is no good news, even if it should be some esoteric WM (which
in this case it is not!). Worst case, I 'd have to set up a VM as described
and test that - sounds like a day of work :-( .
