I have tried the x11 patch, and I find that dead-key compositions
work well, but that compose-key compositions are broken.
Linux standard compose key character composition sequences are in:
http://www.hermit.org/Linux/ComposeKeys.html
These work with the svn FLTK 1.3. With your patch added, the composed
character does appear, but the first character of the sequence also
appears. For example, c with cedilla is obtained with
<compose> , c
With the patch ,ç is inserted in the text.

Compose key usage is a major feature of non-ascii input on the
unix/linux platform. Thus the enhancement you propose should
support it.
