I was wondering that myself..
I just now compiled that same snapshot on my more recent fedora3
machine with xft disabled (without my fix) and it hit the same error.
Maybe you were on another platform during your test (Apple/Windows?)
where the X-specific code was #ifdef'ed out?
I guess no one had caught this so far because IIRC, xft is now
enabled by default.
