I have now tested this on the failing machine (this one, in fact) and the patch is good. Also, I found another machine that also exhibits the erroneous behaviour and the patch helps there, too. So I think it is good. I don't know if it matters, but the "first" machine has an ATI graphics card, the "other" one is an Nvidia. I had assumed it was driver related in some way, but apparently not...
