Yes, Alvin's approach is a more general one and would also concern other (modal, non-modal, normal = top-level, e.g. toolbar) windows. This is probably better postponed (1.4-feature/3.0), but maybe we can also go that route before 1.3 will be released. There's also the related (but different) STR about xclass (#2053). Let's see...
