You're right, we don't need to discuss about these probably internal methods, let's see what Greg has when he's ready, and then decide. Sorry for the noise, Greg's decision to make these helper methods private is probably the best. The only (public) method would be one to change TAB navigation in Fl_Multiline_Input (as discussed elsewhere in this thread).
