Not sure, but my understanding was, that this event is sent after the user
requested that the window is destroyed. So in FLTK, we should already know
that the window is being destroyed and set all flags accordingly, right?

OP: do you have a sample code in which you can describe what you expect
vs. what you actually get?

I wonder just *who* is triggering the DestroyNotify if not the app itself,
and if that is a legal thing or a WM issue?
