You can create some configuration file on your machine that maps on font to another. I am not sure how it works, some X11 person will surely chime in. Settinf Fl_Font to HELVETICA will not work, but setting the built-in-table should. Just make sure that you modify the right table, because Xft support is in a different position than regular X11 support.
