Yup - XFT is the default, but there's still a lot of places (e.g. embedded 
systems or minimal installs) where XFT is not guaranteed to be present, so 
retaining the Xlib way is still handy...

Sure, but I don't think the Helvetica name is a problem anyway - all the 
distros have been through this, and ship a "Helvetica" that is OK, as far as I 
can make out...
