The gmane link is something someone set up here as an alternative
to the web interface on fltk.org.
It might be a read only 'archive' of the newsgroup, and was only
started a few weeks ago; I don't think they've synced up with the
existing messages, just the ones from that day forward.

The best way is the news reader interface:
news://news.easysw.com
Yes, it's just like email.
If you have thunderbird, use: File -> New Account -> Newsgroup Account
and at the Newsgroup Server prompt, specify news.easysw.com
You can then read through all the messages for the last few years,
and reply just like email.
Microsoft Outlook (Express, etc) has a similar news reader interface,
as do Opera and others.
