No, not stupid at all. Thunderbird is an EMail client that also handles news groups. Download it (runs on any system, just like Firefox), the add news.fltk.org as a server, then add all the news groups that you are interested in. This is so much more comfortable and /faster/ than some php forum, you'll never want to go back to one.
