Thanks for the explanation. Another good reason not to use cout as a debugging tool (or at least an indication that I should understand its limitations beforehand)! The way that I'd interpreted FL_TOGGLE_TYPE was that the value would be inverted in the sense of sending 0 instead of 1 and vice versa.
