Assuming you are referring to 1.3.x, then I'd say that setting it to
"iso10646-1" probably makes more sense. I'm not quite sure why it has
not been changed, in fact. Probably my fault, too.
I guess we'd need to do tests is a variety of languages, and using Xlib,
to make sure it behaves as expected.
If there are issues with Xlib I might not see them as I favour XFT all
the time now...

For 1.1.x leaving it at iso8859 is probably sensible.

Don't know what fltk2 has...
