I have to echo what Kai-Uwe said; it may be a boxtype issue - what
boxtype are you setting for your window? 
Also, can you post the minimal compileable example that exhibits the
behaviour?

The fact that it works on some WM's and not on others may well be
misleading - it is likely (for example) that the gnome desktop is
compositing windows, whilst XFCE may be more "honest" about drawing
what's actually there... Though I'd expect WinXP to be doing the
"simple" thing too...

Don't think we've seen other reports of this behaviour, so be
interesting to look at your code and see what is going on.
