I'd much much rather add those functions (gradients, alpha, antialiasing) to 
the graphics primitives in FLTK itself than rely on another library. 
Compositing, buffering, and caching will be needed in the future.

AFAIK, all supported graphics environments support these features for some time 
now. X11 might need libraries linked at run-time, but we do that at several 
other locations. 

Preferably that would be FLTK3 ;-)
