Hmm, I can't get this to fail: testing with fltk-1.3 and fltk-3 from SVN on an 
Ubuntu (unity) system, it all Just WOrks, and toggling the "border" button 
allows me to switch the decorations on and off at will.

Don't know the WM in KDE is maybe different in some way?
