Good afternoon,
I think that there may be some benefit to adding instructions for
screen-reader users, but I would think that they should not be JAWS
specific, as there are a number of other screen-readers in use.
As for JAWS keystrokes I would say that all of the current keytroke
available on the page are sufficient, but that there is some confusion
for any screen-reader user when interacting with a web application.
The cognitive paradigm for web interfaces, for most screen-reader
users, is one of a flat document with only html form controls. It
will take a lot of learning and new habit formation for AT users to
become comfortable with the complex UI controls available through ARIA
implementations.
By far the most confusing aspect to me is the inline edit field being
identified by AT as a button. This may be the best option currently
available under the ARIA spec, but the control is clearly not a button.
I would provide feedback on undo and redo, but since I couldn't find
any reference to this on the page it was like it was non-existent to
JAWS.
HTH,
Everett

Hi all--
Is there an opportunity to provide more "contextual" information for
users, for example, when they land on the page? And to add JAWS
keystrokes? It sounded as if the two JAWS users were confused and
tried to use known keystrokes for orientation (which didn't work).

I'd say it's worth sharing because it could be confusing to hear
"true". Plus it looks really easy to fix.

Nice patch! Just a quick question about it...
While our bSpace Section Info page is just a mockup, it's based on
a real user interface in Sakai. Given this, I'm wondering if this
issue might be something we should also share upstream with the
Sakai community? It's likely a really easy change to the Section
Info tools's markup.

cool, thanks. If you would assigned that bug to me, I'll

Hi,
Last week I conducted user testing with 2 JAWS users on
the bSpace implementation of Inline Edit. Here is the wiki
page with results (please note the wiki page is a work in
progress):
http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Simple+Text+Inline+Edit+User+Testing+-+Round+3+Results
A bug that came up is that when you tab to the 'remove'
button to remove a row, JAWS reads "true", which is not
meaningful to the user.
Here is a patch that gives each button the title "remove
this row".
