Yes, Google has released a beta version of Gears that works with Safari and also Fluid (available at the link colin provided). In the last version of Fluid I released, (0.9.3) I added the necessary code for loading this Gears plugin... that means that if your SSB is version 0.9.3 and you install the new Gears beta linked below, Gears should work as expected in the SSB if you browse to a site that is 'Gears-enabled' (e.g. Google Reader).
A couple of things to note: 1. I would *highly* recommend updating both Fluid.app and *all* of your Fluid SSBs to 0.9.3 if you are going to install the Gears beta plugin. I have not tested earlier versions of SSBs with the Gears beta plugin installed. 2. you must install the Gears beta plugin to get any Gears functionality in Fluid SSBs. Fluid does not include any private copy of Gears (and will not in the future). Colin: not sure what you mean about there being other 'caveats' to using Fluid with Gears that need to be ironed out? Also note that the Gears beta linked below is just a *beta*. Google has not done an official announcement for this yet... they seem to be asking for help in testing before doing a full release. My advice: If you are not feeling adventurous, you should wait until Google does an official release. that said, i've been testing and it seems to be working for me. Great job Gears team!
