There is a userscript you can add to Greasemonkey, and possibly to Fluid that will subscribe to feeds using Google Reader, bypassing the iGoogle / Google Reader choice. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/8390
I have not tested it in any way. There is no "fix" for the video problems you're experiencing other than to whitelist embeds from the sites in question.
