My point, at least from the standpoint of my own band (Stale Urine), is that
it's not just about the music. The actual sounds created are just a part of
the Stale Urine experience. There's also the phenomenon of seeing the band
live*, which can't fully be recreated on a recording. But the band explores
our aesthetic and graphical sense in creating the covers and liner notes to
our recordings. There's a certain pleasure in cataloguing and organizing
things, and creating album covers with detailed liner notes is part of that
experience. It also helps us keep the flow of information about the band
going.
*Completely shameless plug: One can see my band, STALE URINE, perform for
free in Los Angeles this Wednesday, April 5. See www.staleurine.com for
details.
