Actually Merda d'artista always reminds me of the english expression "piss
artist" which far from meaning an artist who works with urine refers to
someone who thinks everything they do is far more important than it actually
is.
The term "Piss artist" is sometimes used as an insult but more often used in
a joking context amongst friends when you want to tell someone that what
they're saying is rubbish.
Maybe people have this expression in other countries also?
As for Manzoni would he have got so much attention if he'd simply bottled
his urine? Seems to me that art involving faeces generally gets more
attention than that involving urine, apart from the "piss christ"
controversy of a couple of years back of course. Of course Gilbert and
George combined both to excellent effect in the large and colourful "Naked
Shit Pictures" series they did a couple of years ago. But I
digress..............
