Certainly, the ideology of nationalism has changed since 1918-1920, when
countries were at war, France and Germany, a problem for the coming together.
and subsequent falling apart, of the Dadaists. And, of course, the worst form
of nationalism was the suppression of art by the Third Reich. But, even still,
to me, nationalism seems a form of censorship, per se. I also consider it
prosaic. The open forum afforded by the internet and the broad exchange
provided within the media today, depending upon where we look, provokes and
incubates internationalism. We are, of course affected by the politics and
culture around us, but I consider nationalism claustrophobic, at best. I think,
as a society with the tools we have, we are beyond that.
