# a letter from robert

The sun came shining and I was strolling and the wheat fields waving and
the dust clouds rolling As the fog was lifting a voice was calling, and The
first time ever I kissed your mouth Like the trembling heart of a captive
bird Warm lips soft as a soul Sittin' here by me, yeah, In my palace deep
With the man in the wind and the west moon; When their bones are picked
clean and the clean bones gone,   They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane, Burning the ground, Strut on a line,
it's discord and rhyme Mouth is alive with juices like wine Feeling it
rise in the cities Feel it sweeping overland Over borders, over frontiers
At the still point of destruction At the centre of the fury All the
angels, all the devils All around us, can't you see?

Sometimes i go and walk the streets behind a green sheet of glass Like
some disgraced cosmonaut Listen, hear she is inside One who lives while
others lie I close my eyes and walk When the night takes a deep breath
And the daylight has no air If I crawl, if I come crawling home And follow
in the trail The scatter of light When I hear, laying on the ground
have you ever been free? i am the fuel It's driven me before, and it
seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal. So free for the moment Lost
somewhere between the earth and the sky So free for the moment Lost In
the rain In the darkness The trees are full of starlight And all I see Is
him and me

I Never understood what my body was for That's why I always leave it layin
out on the floor The shape a curiosity Where different faces fit before
And tracing my image in the sand To pass the time from slip to fall The
line I trace begins to weave A tangled web from wall to wall Endlessly
replaying times that were unkind so Here's to the maker, the film double
taker, the illusion type faker. Guaranteed shaker, paravision viewer, You
know the place where nothing is real. Where everything flows. Looking
through the bent backed tulips fuel burning fast on an empty tank It
seems you are it seems you are

And when they pulled them off the floor like a jigsaw puzzle With a
couple of pieces gone all i need is my leather, one t-shirt and two
socks, i'll keep my hands warm in your pockets and you can use the
engine block, I've used hammers made out of wood. I have played games
with pieces and rules. you watch your feet for cracks in the pavement.
My legs ache My heart is sore You called up in the sky You called up
in the clouds Is there something you forgot to tell me... you call my
name and sometimes far too long

But don't forget who's taking you home and in whose arms you're gonna be
And remember the smell of the fabric Of your simple city dress it's
not the wind that cracked your shoulder and threw you to the ground who's
there that makes you so afraid? you're shaken to the bone you know i
don't understand And then you put your arms around me as we tumble to the
ground and then you say I did not believe the information My heart
going boom, boom, boom Just had to trust imagination I was feeling part
of the scenery I staggered back to the underground The breeze blew
back my hair I remembered throwing punches around And preachin' from my
chair and There's a place where I know you walked going to the east
side now going to the south side Tryin' to lose those awkward teenage
blues And oh the wonder

They give us those nice bright colors They give us the greens of summers
and the Confusion in her eyes When the darkness broke in When the change
is gone - when the urge is gone Its poisonous, it muscles, it aches It
s a bitter mouth, its buttered and knived Its the awful truth, And
we're stepping lightly Hanging each night in rapture These songs of
freedom, Spineless movements and wild attacks

buried in the countryside exploding in our skulls at night
It's everywhere a baby cries
Freedom

see the cities buried in sleep at night
see the stars out tonight
and all of it is yours and mine

freedom
