The erasure of space provides another dynamic based on simply this: things
that can get at each other compete. The increase of competition can be
destructive (leading to overspecialization and homogenization) or
beneficial, but either way it accelerates the rate at which systems evolve
and thus favours entiti4s and configurations that can rapidly mutate to
exploit emerging opportunities.
