...and a good time was had by all (i think...) -
{Beatrice needs to post more often methinks}. Thanks Sol
for organizing the get-together in London and travelling
all that distance to get there.
The "Lost Map" of Kathy Prendergast (a grand idea, but not
taken to it's full potential) was a turning point (so to
speak) and, yes, Roger was a "lost" cause to us for a while
there, but the comment about us standing around wondering
is not completely correct - I went searching for him twice
in the bathroom: once, just looking and the second time
actually calling his name amongst the loos (English:
"toilet" and Dutch: "void" - both appropriate}.
Tate: funny museum. I can't shake the idea of randomly
premodified lighting for each room, but I'll have to
concede to the fact that they were having electrical
problems. Didn't you say, Sol, that it's a converted
powerplant ("Kraftwerk")? The irony doesn't escape us.
Later going thru the 5 floors again (wanting to spend more
time with each artwork to see if they were eye caressing or
ay carumba), I noticed that the best lit room was the one
that featured the Rothko's. The lighting was very close to
the kind used in Mr. R's Chapel here in Sweatnecktown,
Texas. Imagine my disappointment when I turned to leave and
near the exit was a sign apologizing for the poor quality
lighting(!)- so, random lighting is what I'm taking home
from the Tate (and the nice big Beuys/Boys room).
I'll send pictures to you Sol as soon as possible (this
weekend?). I have to dink around with installing a USB
driver and "practice" downloading kitty pictures from the
8MB stick. I don't want to lose all 208 vacation pics/vids
in a fell-swoop(!)
Great finds:
* Two 4-CD sets of James Joyce's Ulysses and Finnegans Wake
bought in Dublin at the James Joyce Center (on Bloomsday!)
for only 15 pounds each.
* "Beuys In America" (special place in my heart) bought in
Bath Spa UK, also, for only 15 pounds.
* "Sonic Graphics - Seeing Sound" (Sol, you'd probably like
this: the fusion of music/sound with graphics) bought at
the London V&A ^also^ for 15 pounds(!)
Anyway, great sights, great weather ('cept for the 86F in
London bit), great food, and wonderful people.
Now back to work (sigh...)
Round Roddin'
