Farewell Princess

1
If only we'd been granted time
To say goodbye
As you climbed into the golden soul ship
Decorated with pink rose petals
A wealth of smiles
As you are gently blown into the unknown
By the breath of our kisses
And prayers

But we can only gaze upon the shadow
Growing smaller
That the departing ship casts upon the hard ground
And cling to memories
As we laugh and cry in turn
Addressing our own humanity
And fumble in a dry-throat darkness
For a tumbler of water
That is no longer there

2
Princess Petal
I liked you
'cos you always got the joke
And, to be honest,
There are so few like you
I've met

The pain, the hurt
The dark nights
The silly wigs, the funny side
Well, I'm afraid
It's one joke I don't get

3
The joy of letters that delight
In upper-cut and lower case
Images that duck and dive
And nip and tuck in cut and paste
Surrealistly cool, the humour
Of the English School, the odd nut-case
Art that happens in the head
Conceived and shared in Fluxy space
Reminding us that life is fun
And art's a game of kiss and chase
A life left like a post-it note
To take us to a happier place
