Hi all, Regarding this book project:
1) This distributed system of binding etc. will be unlikely to work, not because people don't intend to do it but just because coordination would be difficult. 2) Fluxus thrives on simplicity. The more complex this gets the greater the chance that nothing will come of it. 3) Having said all that the essence of the idea, a collaborative book, is wonderful. But clear, simple working methods will increase the chances of succeeding with it. If you remember the only projects completely realised thus far on the list are those with a single organiser/producer, however there is the possibility of developing a new working model here I suppose. Someone asked so: Okay wiki.........the idea is basically a set of webpages that anyone can change..anyone is free to add text, modify existing text, or add or link files (graphics, txts etc.). Thus basically it's a shared notebook for planning collaborative activities. The neat thing is that all the changes are logged so one can see the progress of the site over time as well as note contributions. Anyhow thanks Kamen for suggesting this...great idea. The metamute wiki seems a bit London-centric.....also the interface is not v. user-friendly BUT I found another wiki site...swiki.net..yet another implementation but it looks nice and supports using HTML as well as plain text if you want. In order to edit material you have to sign up to swiki.net but all they ask for is your name & e-mail (how refreshing!!) so I signed up and made us a swiki it's at http://fluxlist.swiki.net/ please have a look. I set it so anyone can make changes(you need to sign up to do so) so have a play around...........BTW Allen B. sorry but your dice caught fire ;) I haven't customized all of it yet, thought I'd leave that to others. Kathy, I think you'll really like this interface etc. It seems a very good tool for logging ideas and project development. I selected a business style model for the swiki because that allows the flexibility we need to plan.........anyway.......... Well, better do some work. Let me know if any swiki problems etc. cheers, Sol.
