Dear ArtAnts,

Perhaps I misunderstand something. Are you saying that there was a two-year graduate program in art history when you attended the University of California at Santa Cruz or are you saying there was a two-year Ph.D. program? Not all graduate programs are Ph.D. programs. Most two-year programs in the University of California system are master's degree programs.

All Ph.D. programs in the University of California are approved by the system-wide adminstration for graduate programs in the president's office. I can't see the UC system approving a 2-year Ph.D. anywhere.

The description Owen Smith posted here sounds more like the programs I know. But please don't accuse me of being snippy. I'm not George Bush and you're not Al Gore. I'm just a workaday art history student who doesn't understand why some folks on this list seem so ... well, just so dang snippy about art history.
