yes people can seem snippy when it comes to art but tis rude to say to someone "dont speak unless you know what you are talking about". The assumption is that no one speaks unless they think they know what they are talking about. All I know is that when I attended UCSC in 1990 there was a two year phd art history program- perhaps it is no longer and perhaps it Owen is right in that it is course work only. I did not take the program but I took courses from professors who had. that is all. madawg
