with respect to Spike Milligan (RIP)

when i was at university i started my course half way through (i.e i did 2
1/5 years of a five year course) which confused them a bit. i turned up for
my first tutorial or crit with an old brief case full of texts and events
and all sorts of stuff, coughng cigarette boxes, talking books (to save the
trouble of having to read) and the like.

i was asked , by a rather earnest painting prof. as to what my influences
were. i replied in all honesty, and somewhat naively -

'spike milligan and my dad'

i caused them no end of problems from then on!

the funny thing was that, i was an older (i was about 28 i think), dedicated
student (no really!), but nobody understood what i was doing and as a result
i basically did it all by myself - and, being part time i had to pay!

so i paid to teach myself and get shouted at by sculpture tutors for having
no traditional values (i didnt even go anywhere near sculpture)!

something wrong there somewhere i feel

still, i've met allen bukoff twice!

that made me realise that things weren't that bad after all...
