Fluxlist Friends,
Speaking for myself and not for Secret Fluxus, I want to respond to Rays
comments on Fluxus ideas and principles. There are certainly some principles
that seem to recur in Fluxus. We make use of Ken Friedmans Twelve Fluxus
Ideas in many of our discussions.
Friedmans list covers: globalism, the unity of art and life, intermedia,
experimentalism, chance, playfulness, simplicity, implicativeness,
exemplativism, specificity, presence in time, and musicality.
These principles suggest that the Fluxus agenda can never be complete.
I agree with Sol, and most of my Secret Fluxus friends probably share my
view. While I can see Madawgs view, this is a practice rooted in history
and it is a fact that a specific group of people developed this practice. We
dont ask that everyone share our dedication to the old work. We do think
that the people who created it deserve credit for what they did. The work of
these artists gave Fluxlist its name.
Some of us had a chance to see Ken Friedman perform in London this weekend.
We did some interesting performances on the way, but we attended as regular
audience members. Another member is writing up our weekend programme, and
well post it soon. The exhibition can be seen at
http://www.thecentreofattention.org/exhibitions/fluxus.html
There is a free catalogue in .pdf form that shows all the works.
Sincerely,
Secret Fluxus
