(fought it several times on my own projects), how do you think this should
be addressed in fluxus?

try to comment out line 171-174 in libfluxus/src/PNGLoader.cpp:
/*  #ifdef PNG_iTXt_SUPPORTED
    text_ptr[0].lang = NULL;
    text_ptr[1].lang = NULL;
    #endif */
