Hello, The new version of FLEXlm is backwards-compatible with FME, so FLEXlm version 8 will work just fine with FME 2002 and FME 2005. You can install both FME 2002 and 2005 on the same machine (in different directories), and have them hit the same license server (with FLEXlm 8.3 installed).

You don't need to worry about that type of file. The license file for a floating license can be called anything you like - we used to name them fme_license.dat but we changed them to safe.lic recently because there is also a local file called fme_license.dat and we didn't want people to be confused.
