Thanks for the help.
I modified the .prj to put GDA94 on top and it now picks it up. The 
datum shift (AGD to GDA) still looks a bit iffy in MapInfo although it 
looks fine in FME viewer and the points correlate between FME & Mapinfo.
Once again, thanks to all the people that wrote to me
