Hi Bob, Haven't seen your workspace (yahoo hasn't forwarded the email with attachment yet) so this is just a guess.
If you open the destination Feature Type properties you'll see a tab marked 'parameters'. Click that and you'll see the ability to set up linetype and color for that particular layer. So how are you setting linetype? If you're using a format attribute it may be getting out-prioritized by this parameter. If you're using this parameter it might be getting out-prioritized by a format attribute. I'm not sure which would get priority. The parameter is set to CONTINUOUS by default I think, which is why I thought this might be the problem here. A template file will (or should) take precedence over all these parameters (and any format attributes). There WAS an issue with the parameters taking predecnce over a template file, but it was fixed in build 1592 so FME2005 onwards shouldn't have that problem.
