Hi Russell, When I do this I use Source Data > Add Dataset and set the source format to "Microsoft Excel File"
I don't use the settings button, just click OK, and get the source feature types correctly. The log window reports... |INFORM|Module `XLS_ADO' API version matches current core version (3.1 20031010). |INFORM|MS Excel Reader: Read 0 DEF line(s). Found 0 attribute(s). |INFORM|MS Excel Reader: Opening `C:/Documents and Settings/mireland/My Documents/black hole/deleteme.xls' for read operation. |INFORM|MS Excel Reader: Closing `C:/Documents and Settings/mireland/My Documents/black hole/deleteme.xls' . Read operation complete. |INFORM|Merged 2 schema features read from 1 datasets into 2 resulting feature types. |INFORM|Opened mapping File C:\DOCUME~1\mireland\LOCALS~1\Temp\FME_b00956.fmw for output |INFORM|Mapping File Generation was SUCCESSFUL. If you do click the settings button then there is an option to choose which tables to select. Have you tried this? Do you get any of this in the log? Are the datasets/feature types reported in the navigation pane? Oh - I see you are using 2006, whilst I have 2006GB - but I just tried it in 2006 and the results are pretty much the same. I would suggest using 2006GB if you can, since the reader was updated from an odbc type to an ADO type - much better. See http://www.fmepedia.com/index.php/ADO for more info.
