mmmmmmmmm..... I don't know that either way is going to work. Apart 
from the fact that we're trying to avoid the use of function calls 
within transformers, I just don't think username and password is 
designed to be obtained from a feature.

I'd think that there's more chance of it working using an 
FMEFunctionCaller transformer using the @SQL function. That way use 
of @Value within that should be OK. 

I don't know - it's a tricky one. To get what you are trying I think 
the FMEFunctionCaller has the best chance of working. However, if you 
just need to be able to set the login/password at runtime then locate 
the settings in the navigation pane, right-click and choose publish. 
Then if you use File > Prompt + Run you'll be prompted to enter new 
values every time you run the workspace.
