Hi Hans, and thanks for your reply.
I think I have found the solution for my problem. The road lines were 
MultiLines. I cleaned up the dataset, so that it only consists of 
single lines, and it seems to work then. 
But I still dont't quite understand why MultiLines shold give me the 
result that I got.
By the way, I'm using FME 2007 build 4275.
