Hey weird, my last two posts haven't shown up. Have I managed to annoy someone there enough to get added to the blacklist? :) Anyway, I understand your reasoning, though I didn't mind (ah, notice) the performance decrease. Must be because it was combined with performance increases, especially around undos. Or maybe my workspaces just aren't monstrous enough. I don't know why, but I like your view panel a LOT more than the same widget in Visio. Oh. It looks like the list behaviour may have changed to Send-To-Recipient??? Mark, did you get copies of my last two replies? Jason

Hi Jason/Mark, With respect to having the overview window not there by default, perhaps this was us whimping out, but what we've found is that if you have a MONSTROUS workspace (which sadly would be when you'd want this thing), it greatly slows things down. And we'd gotten complaints from folks about the slowdown. Since we had no complaints that there was no overview window before, we thought it would be better to make the default be that its off, and only if you want it, you turn it on, knowing some things will be slower. So that's why we did what we did. We *do* want to make the overview window faster, but that's a project for FME 2008, so we felt this was the best choice for this release. I'm sad about it too, but it was a call made to reduce complaints actually by just removing the source of the complaint, or at least making people that want the functionality pay the price for it... And that's the way it is... (Walter Cronkite reference there...)
