I have a shapefile containing a set of polygons constituting a partition of the plane. The geometry is drawn to a far finer resolution than I need for my app - enough so that I am getting entirely unacceptable performance in drawing my maps.
By simplifying the geometry, I should be able to reduce the amount of data I need to transmit by two or three orders of magnititude, but I need to do it on the entire collection at once, not feature-by-feature. If I simplify the geometry of features individually, I get gaps and overlaps, which is unacceptable for my current application. Can FME help me with this problem? If so, can someone point me to where I might find out how? Thanks. For insights into what's up at Safe Software and what's on the development horizon, visit Safe's blog at spatial-etl.blogspot.com.
