Jeff, You could also try the new CurveFitter transformer in FME2007. It's an extra cost add-on but it is designed for situations like this where you want to reduce data sizes.
Check out the CurveFitter page on the Safe website... http://www.safe.com/products/fme/plugins/curvefitter/index.php I think we should be able to give you an evaluation license for this function. Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] and ask them. If you include info on what formats you are working with then they'll be able to give you advice on whether CurveFitter is suitable for you (for example some formats don't support arcs, and I'm told that some increase in size when using arcs!)
