I write applications that accept commands over tcpip sockets. Once I am able to open a socket in Filemaker I can send requests from Filemaker to any one of my apps, cross platform. Instead of writing an apple script interface for Mac, and a DDE interface for win32.
Examples Sending email with a from address that is selectable. Creating a pdf and emailing it. Uploading data to an ftp site.
